About LRS Companies
How long has LRS been in business?
LRS Companies has been operating in Central New York for more than 50 years across three generations of family ownership. We’ve grown from a small local site contractor to one of the region’s most trusted firms — but we’ve kept the same standards from day one.
What areas do you serve?
We work throughout Central New York, including Cayuga, Onondaga, Tompkins, Seneca, Cortland, Madison, Oswego, and Wayne counties. If you’re outside this area but have a project that fits our wheelhouse, give us a call — we’ll let you know if it’s a good fit.
What types of projects does LRS handle?
We handle commercial, institutional, municipal, and large residential development site work — including school district campuses, university facilities, wastewater treatment plants, athletic fields, multi-family housing, and industrial sites. Our largest project supported was a $272M+ Cornell campus build.
Do you self-perform or sub out the work?
We self-perform the vast majority of our scope. We own our equipment, our trucks, and our crushers, and our crews are LRS employees — not subcontractors. The only time we coordinate third-party help is for licensed surveying on initial benchmarks.
What’s your workmanship guarantee?
Every project we complete carries a 1-Year Workmanship Guarantee. If something we built isn’t right — settling, drainage, grade, paving — we come back and fix it at no cost. Full details are on our Guarantee page.
For GCs & Developers
Working with LRS on your project
How early in pre-construction should we bring you in?
As early as possible — ideally during design or schematic phase. The earlier we’re involved, the more value we add through constructability reviews, earthwork analysis, and coordination with utility and municipal stakeholders. Bringing us in late means we’re solving problems instead of preventing them.
Do you provide hard bids, or can we work GMP / cost-plus?
Both. We deliver detailed hard bids with full scope clarity, and we also work on GMP and cost-plus arrangements when the project benefits from collaborative pricing. Tell us what fits your delivery model and we’ll work with you.
What’s your typical turnaround on a bid?
For a typical commercial site work bid with full plans and specs, expect a complete number within 5–7 business days. Larger or more complex projects may take 10–14 days for proper takeoff and analysis. We’ll give you a realistic timeline up front.
Are you bonded and insured?
Yes — fully bonded and insured for the project sizes we work on. We can provide certificates of insurance, bonding capacity letters, and references on request.
How do you handle change orders and unforeseen site conditions?
Honestly and quickly. If we hit unforeseen conditions — bad soil, hidden utilities, water — we document immediately, get you a clear scope and price, and keep work moving wherever possible. No surprises buried in the closeout.
Can you work on a tight schedule?
Yes. We’ve delivered projects ahead of schedule consistently — Cornell NCRE Phase 2 finished 5 months ahead. Tight schedules are won in pre-con: realistic sequencing, the right equipment on site, and crews ready to roll on day one.
For Owner-Operators
Driving for LRS
What kinds of trucks do you hire?
We hire single-axle dumps, tri-axle dumps, 10-wheelers, tractor trailers (end dumps), and flatbed/lowboys. Tell us what you run and we’ll let you know if there’s a fit.
How do payments work?
Owner-operators are paid on regular cycles based on hauled tonnage or hours, depending on the job. We provide clear rate sheets up front, accurate ticketing, and on-time payments.
Do I need my own insurance?
Yes. We require owner-operators to carry their own commercial auto and liability insurance at minimum coverage levels we’ll share when you apply. We’ll need certificates on file before you start hauling for us.
Is the work seasonal or year-round?
Site work in Central NY is seasonally heavy March through November, with lighter winter work depending on conditions. We work year-round and try to keep reliable owner-operators busy throughout the season.
How do I apply?
Fill out our owner-operator application on the “We Hire Trucks” page. Tell us about your equipment, experience, and availability — we’ll be in touch to discuss next steps.
For Vendors
Joining the LRS vendor network
What kinds of vendors does LRS use?
We work with dump site operators, material suppliers (aggregates, topsoil, fill, asphalt, concrete), pit/quarry operators, and specialty subcontractors. If you operate a facility or supply a material we use on site work, we’d like to know about you.
How does the dump site network work?
We’re building a regional network of approved dump sites so our crews always know the closest, most cost-effective option. Sign up on the “Become a Vendor” page with your location, materials accepted, and rates — and we’ll add you to our call list and map.
Is there a cost to be listed?
No. Listing in the LRS vendor network is free. The benefit to you is consistent business from our active projects across Central New York.
How do I get added?
Visit the “Become a Vendor” page, fill out the sign-up form with your details, and we’ll review and add you to the network. You’ll be visible on our internal map and call list as soon as you’re approved.
