Project Overview

Critical Infrastructure Underground

Cargill invested $42 million to construct a new #4 airshaft at the Cayuga Salt Mine — the largest underground salt mine in New York State. This deep ventilation, access, and emergency escape shaft improves air quality, shortens evacuation times for miners, and sustains safe, long-term operations. LRS was trusted to handle vital surface work supporting this high-profile project.
LRS delivered essential surface site preparation, land clearing, utilities, grading, drainage systems, and environmental controls for this critical infrastructure upgrade.
Scope of Work

LRS Deliverables

LRS provided comprehensive surface-level support to enable the shaft’s safe construction at New York’s largest underground salt mine — from initial clearing through final site restoration.
Land clearing and site preparation — cleared Ridge Road site for construction facilities and access
Precise rough and fine grading for stable surfaces for buildings, roads, and drainage
Utilities installation — drainage systems, stormwater management, supporting infrastructure
Environmental and erosion controls — SWPPP-compliant BMPs, silt fencing, sediment basins
Final site restoration — topsoil and seeding to restore the site post-construction
